What makes Tulum, Oaxaca, Cancun, and Los Cabos the top picks for over ten million women visiting Mexico in 2024? These destinations combine stunning landscapes, rich culture, and a focus on safety, making them the perfect havens for female travelers. Whether it’s the serene beaches of Tulum, the cultural vibrance of Oaxaca, the lively energy of Cancun, or the luxurious charm of Los Cabos, these cities cater to every kind of traveler. With Mexico’s commitment to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment, it’s no wonder these four gems have become favorites among women worldwide

In 2024, Mexico has solidified its reputation as a top destination for women travelers, welcoming over 10.2 million foreign women by air between January and November. These figures highlight a 2.4% increase from the same period in 2023, showcasing the country’s appeal as a safe and vibrant haven for female tourists.

Why Women Are Flocking to Mexico

According to Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, women made up 51.1% of all foreign air arrivals during this period. “Mexico offers more than stunning landscapes; it’s a place where women can explore freely and safely, whether traveling solo or in groups,” she stated. The country’s dedication to providing secure and enriching experiences for women has driven this impressive growth.

The leadership of President Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum has been pivotal in creating a cultural shift. Public policies focused on reducing violence and promoting gender equality have empowered women to travel confidently and enjoy their rights, including the right to tourism.

Top Destinations Capturing Women’s Hearts

Beach destinations lead the way for female travelers. Tulum tops the list, where 59% of tourists are women, followed closely by Oaxaca with 53.8%, Cancun with 53.7%, and Los Cabos with 53.4%. These spots are celebrated for their unique charm—whether it’s Tulum’s serene beaches, Oaxaca’s rich cultural heritage, Cancun’s lively nightlife, or Los Cabos’ luxury resorts and adventure offerings.

“Women are not just travelers; they are trailblazers embracing every corner of Mexico,” Rodríguez Zamora added. These destinations reflect the diverse experiences that female tourists seek, from relaxation and culture to fun and exploration.

Who Are These Travelers?

The majority of women visiting Mexico are from the United States, making up 65% of female arrivals. Canadian women follow with 12%, Colombians account for 3%, and the remaining 20% represent a mix of other nationalities. This diverse influx reinforces Mexico’s global reputation as a welcoming and inclusive destination.

Tourism as a Path to Empowerment

Rodríguez Zamora emphasized the broader impact of tourism on gender equality. “Tourism is not just about visiting new places; it’s about empowering women and creating spaces where they can thrive,” she said. By ensuring safety, promoting cultural inclusion, and offering diverse experiences, Mexico is paving the way for female travelers to feel confident and respected.

Mexico: A Movement in Motion

With its focus on safety, cultural enrichment, and inclusivity, Mexico continues to shine as a beacon for female travelers worldwide. Whether it’s the tranquil beaches of Tulum, the vibrant streets of Oaxaca, or the luxurious shores of Los Cabos, Mexico proves it’s not just a destination—it’s a transformative experience for women everywhere.
